Kobayashi Akiyo
Professor of Science of Design, Musashino Art University
specialized in Design Theory and Design Methodology.
Professor Kobayashi holds a master’s degree from the Graduate School of Art and Design at Musashino Art University. He has long focused on research in design theory and methodology, particularly conducting multifaceted design explorations centered on Semiotics. His research approaches design as the act of giving "meaning" to artificial objects and advocates that design is not only a problem-solving process but also a creative and challenging cultural practice. He combines semiotics, narratology, and ludology, applying them to "timeline design" to develop a new perspective for observing and analyzing user behavior. He has also conducted historical research on color consciousness and visualization in Japan from ancient to modern times, based on morphology and color theory. In addition, Professor Kobayashi is committed to the historical analysis of the foundational concepts of modern design, exploring the shifting values of design across different cultures and eras. He has numerous publications covering design theory, color research, interactive design, and design history. He actively participates in international academic exchanges and teaching collaborations, making far-reaching contributions to the development of design education and practice.
